Imaging Informatics is an integral part of a career as a Diagnostic Imaging professional. This course aims at providing all the essential skills and knowledge necessary for the successful planning, implementation, and maintenance of a PACS, and other radiology systems. This program also helps begin preparation for students interested in taking the Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP) exam. Topics include: a practical overview to PACS Administration and Operations, DICOM and HL7, Networking, PACS workflow and Architecture, Image Exchange, and Electronic Health Records (EHR) integration.

PACS in radiology is constantly evolving and new integration challenges are changing the way imaging services are provided. PACS management is a growing challenge for Radiology department personnel and vendors. PACS and Imaging Informatics must accommodate many different workflows including nonradiology needs.

The emergence of the Imaging Informatics profession and the PACS Administrator role is an answer to the complexity of the digital imaging environment. PACS management and healthcare informatics require specific knowledge and skills unique to this technology. This practical knowledge is delivered by experienced healthcare IT professionals who currently practice these concepts

You will leave with an understanding of:

  • PACS/RIS/HIS systems, their role, architecture, installation, the integration, and the workflow
  • Implementing and maintaining PACS system
  • Basic IT, networking, and standards for interoperability
  • How to use Image Management to assure quality, safety and security in the radiology department, Grayscale Standard Display Function, and Information Life Cycle (ILM)
  • How to troubleshoot and integrate imaging modalities using DICOM and HL7 standards.
  • Interoperability, IHE profiles of IT domain related to radiology, such as XDS and XDS-I.
  • The benefits of integrating PACS viewer to EMR/EHR and Clinical Informatics
  • The concept of electronic image exchange using VNA archive.
  • Design for traditional radiology and non-radiology workflows
  • PACS basic maintenance, troubleshooting and managing downtime
  • Review of CIIP test content specifications and requirements
  • This course is designed for Junior level imaging professionals who want to enter the challenging world of Imaging Informatics.
  • Radiologic Technologists
  • Imaging Specialists
  • Current PACS Administrators and field engineers who wish to update their knowledge.
  • Hospital IT staff and personnel who are actively involved in PACS selection, planning and imple mentation
